Which type of staircase is the best choice for your property depends, among other things, on the existing terrain. On flat slopes it may be sufficient to add individual wide steps at regular intervals. The way up is therefore pleasant to walk. The stairs also serve as a visual structure.
If there are large differences in height that have to be managed in a small space, it is advisable to build the stairs parallel to the slope. These then wind upwards in a snake shape with more or less changes of direction.
As already mentioned, block steps are solid components made of natural stone. As a rule, they are laid on 2 to 3 cm of sand . A layer of gravel 20 to 30 cm thick should be laid underneath. Depending on how many steps you are planning, a concrete foundation may be recommended. In other words: From five steps onwards, you should place the lowest step on an 80 cm deep concrete foundation with 5 cm of mortar as a binding layer.
As already mentioned, a few wide steps are often sufficient for flat properties. If you design your staircase without a border, the staircase sometimes functions as a visual design element. In this case there are hardly any limits to your creativity.
If the steps vary in width or the steps are arranged slightly offset, this is not a problem. Rather, they emphasize the natural character of your garden and ensure an attractive look.

Whichever staircase you are going to build, mount your steps with a slight fall forward so that water can easily run off the steps in the right direction and not collect on the steps and form ice streets in winter.

For example, if you have a height difference of 1 meter and want to build with our granite stairs with a step height of 140mm. Then divide 1000mm by 140mm and get your result. In this case, the need becomes 7.14 steps (1000/140) to get up from the ground to the top level. Here is the time to round up to 8 and either raise the level or lower the first step into the ground and let the bottom step have a lower step height. When you know the number of steps, you can easily undo these with the finished step depth of the block step. In this case, when we used the Villa series, the step depth is 320mm. We will therefore get a staircase that measures 8x320mm = 2560mm in depth. Also deduct about 2cm as each step will overlap each other during assembly.
So for a stone staircase built from granite block steps, you get measurements of approx. 2400mm in depth and with a fall height of 1m the need is 8 steps.
